David and I decided to head up to the cottage on the lake. For those that don't know, we sort of watch his ex-wife's cottage. She moved away to Washington a couple years ago and hasn't been able to sell it. She let us borrow it when we first got Dahlia since we had nowhere else to take our new dog and we've been keeping an eye on it for her ever since. It's a nice place to get away for the weekend as it's in this little alcove right on Oneida Lake. It's dark and quiet and really peaceful up there.

Plus it has a washer AND dryer!

So this weekend we decided to go up there to get away and to tackle some of the laundry that needs to be done (we only have a washer at home).

We debated where to walk Dahlia as the railroad tracks will be teeming with snowmobiles. And then we discovered a super nice thing about central NY. The lake was frozen over. So solidly frozen over that snowmobiles were racing on the whole thing and people were ice fishing out in the middle of it. So David got out his cross country skis and Dahlia and I accompanied him out onto the lake. It was fun getting out away from shore in such a way!

First day out on the lake.

David decided to ski down the hill. He ended up landing on his butt. LOL

Racing off to catch up to her Daddy, who was skiing.

There was big chunk of ice where apparently the ice sections came together or something. I'm not sure how this happens, but it was interesting.

Dahlia walks VERY funny on this snow.

Following her Daddy. For once a good distance behind. Most of the time she followed RIGHT in his ski tracks, sometimes even stepping on the skis and almost falling over. Wish I had gotten a video of that.

My photos from our second stint came out much better. I started experimenting with a fill flash and some manual settings (I tend to forget my camera has these!).

I'm not sure but..is this a happy dog?

Dahlia loves her Daddy!

Well, actually, she came up to him and poked his glove. Yep, it was glove killin' time!

But wait...another glove?

Dahlia says, "That was fun Dad!"

But it's not over...because MOMMY also has gloves! Lucky Dahlia!

Again, I ask...I THINK this is a happy dog, yes?

I love watching her walk out there. It was almost ridiculous to see because it just looked SO silly.

That looks like one very happy dog to me. Thank you for the pics - I'm always interested to see where other people live or visit. The cottage sounds wonderful.

It's a really nice place to get away to. So quiet and peaceful (except when people drive their ATVs around but we can deal with that!).

Are you kidding, that's an ecstatic dog! Beautiful pictures, and they had me grinning from ear to ear. :)

She was thrilled to be out there. She grinned most of the time she was out there. Glad you enjoyed the photos!

I know of it, but never considered it. As you can see from the pics, Dahlia likes to be behind us. She is almost all the time on walks and we have to try to convince her to go out and away from us! LOL She's a silly herding dog.

yeah that'd be a little backward for skijoring, hehehe!

Maybe she could push him on them! LOL

Of course, I'm not sure a 50lb dog could pull a 250lb, 6'2" guy. You won't catch ME getting on a pair of skis! lol
